A peculiar situation recently unfolded when a woman decided to test her date’s generosity by bringing 23 family members along on their first date. Her bold attempt to assess his willingness to support her family didn’t go as planned.
The man, Mr. Lui, had chosen a popular restaurant in Zhejiang, a bustling province in Eastern China, in hopes of creating a memorable first meeting.
According to the Taizhou Evening News, Miss Zhang’s unconventional strategy was meant to test Mr. Lui’s generosity and his potential as a provider for her family.
However, the unexpected situation left Mr. Lui both stunned and unwilling to comply. Faced with a bill of 20,000 yuan (around $3,100), he chose to leave the restaurant, paying only for his own meal and leaving Miss Zhang to cover the rest.
Embarrassed and burdened with the large bill, Miss Zhang took legal action against Mr. Lui. The court ruled that Mr. Lui was only responsible for paying for his own meal and Miss Zhang’s, totaling 1,400 yuan.
What started as a test of character turned into a costly lesson for Miss Zhang. While her goal was to gauge Mr. Lui’s generosity, the approach not only backfired but also strained what could have been the start of a relationship.
This humorous yet cautionary tale highlights the importance of sincerity and open communication in relationships. Trying to test someone’s character with elaborate schemes can lead to unintended—and often expensive—consequences.
